Tempered glass is used primarily where strength and safety are primary concerns. The glass is created by using special chemical or thermal treatments (the glass is cooked at 1700 degrees Fahrenheit) during the creation process. The glass is also designed not to break into large dangerous pieces with sharp edges but rather to shatter into small fragments which are less likely to cause severe cuts and lacerations.
